Smooth Paring
Refining the Raw Form on the Lathe
Following the welding process, the sand-casted memorials undergo “Chhilai”—a traditional paring technique used to smoothen the raw metal. In this stage, the artisan mounts the urn onto a manual lathe machine. As the piece rotates at high speed, a steady hand uses specialized cutting tools to peel away the rough outer casting crust. This process meticulously reveals the clean, uniform shiny metal beneath, ensuring the vessel is perfectly balanced and structurally smooth before it moves to the artistic finishing stages.
Luster Polishing & Quality Inspection
Surface Equalization & Structural Auditing
Once the smooth paring is complete, the vessel moves to the polishing wheels for intensive surface equalization. This stage serves a dual purpose: it eliminates any micro-roughness remaining from the lathe work and acts as a final quality audit of the metal. As the friction-based polishing reveals the true brilliance of the metal ( Brass or Aluminum ), it exposes even the smallest structural imperfections, allowing us to ensure only flawless pieces proceed.
